Efforts to tackle the difficult issue of alcohol management in a sporting setting have resulted in the ETSA Park receiving their Level 3 Certificate under the Australian Drug Foundation’s Good Sports program.
The program has been designed to assist clubs with the responsible management of alcohol through the adoption of various practises and policies. The program breaks the nexus between alcohol and club profits and guides clubs to ahealthier future by becoming more attractive to a wider range of people in the community, including families and children.
Pat Warren, Stadium Manager, said that the club had worked hard to address the criteria required for the Level 3 accreditation. “We now provide responsible alcohol management practises including the provision of non and low alcohol drinks, smoke free social facilities, safe transport strategies, provision of food when serving alcohol and fundraising, and functions and prizes without an emphasis on alcohol. We have also put together all of our practices into an alcohol management policy.”
“We are confident it will make the ETSA Park a better place to play sport and socialise for all members of our community.” The club will be regularly monitored to ensure compliance with the accreditation criteria.
The Good Sports Program was developed following research conducted by the Australian Drug Foundation which showed that by introducing responsible alcohol management policies, clubs were able to improve their image and increase their revenue.
GOOD SPORTS is managed in this state by Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia and proudly supported by the Motor Accident Commission (MAC) and the Department of Health and Ageing.
